As Associate Provost for International Education, Andrew Sobiesuo, Professor of Hispanic Studies, serves as the campus senior international officer providing vision and leadership in the development, implementation and management of all international programs and services in compliance with College, State and Federal regulations.

A tenured member of the College of Charleston faculty, Sobiesuo previously taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and The Ohio State University.  His academic training spans several continents: he received his B.A. (Hons) degree from the University of Ghana, a Diploma in Spanish Language and Culture and further studies in Hispanic Philology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He earned his Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from The Ohio State University. 

At the College of Charleston, Sobiesuo taught several courses on Spanish language, literature and culture, and was chair of the Department of Hispanic Studies. He was elected multiple times to the Faculty Senate, served on the President Commission on Diversity, Equity and Access and on many faculty committees including the Tenure, Promotion and Third Year Review, Research and Development, Faculty Hearing, and Advisory Committee to the President. Professor Sobiesuo has also been invited to various universities as External Reviewer on faculty Tenure and Promotion evaluations.  He was nominated to the Arcadia University College of Global Studies National Advisory Board, is a founding member of Foundation for Rural Education, Empowerment Development (FREED) and currently serves as board member of American Institute for Foreign Study. He received a Fulbright Grant to the UK in 2013.

His research focuses on the afro-Spanish dimensions of the literature of Spain, Afro-Hispanic and Diasporan literatures, Spanish women writers, international education, and diversity in education abroad.  He has presented academic papers at numerous professional conferences, is the author of several peer-reviewed articles in academic journals and chapters in edited volumes and serves/served on several editorial boards.
