Distinguished Undergraduate Mentor Award
The Distinguished Undergraduate Mentor Award is made to one individual during the spring semester of each academic year. This award honors those roster faculty members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to providing exceptionally high quality mentoring to undergraduate students in individual research or creative projects throughout their careers. The Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Committee recommends a faculty recipient to the Provost. The nominee will receive a framed certificate and a cash award.

Nominations
The Distinguished Undergraduate Mentor Award honors roster faculty who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to and excellence in mentoring undergraduate students in individual research or creative projects by supporting and influencing students’ educational and career paths. Nominators must be a faculty member(s) and letters should describe how the individual nominee is outstanding among other excellent mentors, explaining the nominee’s personal commitment to mentoring and how the nominee individualizes mentoring strategies to fit student needs. Additional information that gives insight into the nominee’s mentoring philosophy and style is welcome. Nominations should be seconded by another faculty member who may co-author the primary nomination letter or write a separate letter. Letters of support should be collected and submitted with the original nomination; up to three letters of support may be submitted. Additional materials will be requested directly from the nominees by the committee and will include a letter of support from a previously mentored student, current CV, and a narrative (up to 1500 words) highlighting exemplary undergraduate student mentorship, including publications with students, student presentations, supervision of summer research activity, bachelor’s essays, etc.
All letters of nomination must also include:
- the name, title and department of the person being proposed for the award;
- the name, address and phone number of the nominator; and
- the name of the award.
