Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students (usually sophomores, juniors, and seniors) to enroll in college courses for credit prior to high school graduation.
Students
Local high school students who are exceptionally strong academically are welcome to take college-level courses at the College of Charleston in their senior (and in some cases, junior) year. They will receive college credit for their coursework.
Applying
To apply, please visit CofC Admissions: Dual Enrolled High School Students site.
Students can browse course offerings (by semester) on our website. Popular courses for high school students include computer science, public speaking, American government, introduction to sociology, introduction to psychology, mathematics and foreign language classes. Placement tests may be required to determine the appropriate level of math or foreign language you can take. Because you can register for classes only after all degree-seeking students have registered, some classes may be full.
Course Fees & Registration
The College of Charleston fee is $450 per student per course for dual enrolled, local high school students who meet SC residency requirements.
Dual enrolled students entering in the fall or spring terms may register during the non-degree registration period (after degree-seeking students have registered). Contact the Office of Admissions for dates and times. Dual enrolled students entering in the summer terms may view registration schedules on the summer session website.
Faculty, High School Representatives, and Parents/Guardians
The College's dual enrollment program is overseen by the Associate Provost for Academic & International Programs, Dr. Mark Del Mastro. Please contact Dr. Del Mastro (delmastromp@cofc.edu) for information related to the dual enrollment process, Dual Enrollment Inquiry Form, and Dual Enrollment Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) Negotiation Processes.
Academic departments approve the acceptance of dual enrolled students and their enrollment in courses on a space-available basis. Since these courses carry full college credit, dual enrolled students are subject to all academic and student regulations of the College of Charleston.
Parents/Guardian may reference the student information above and visit the CofC Admissions: Dual Enrolled High School Students site when your student is ready to apply, which includes access to the dual enrollment application and dual enrollment permission form, as well as other important requirements. The fee is $450 per student per course for dual enrolled, local high school students who meet SC residency requirements.
